Building Boats

Today we found out just how fun density is in the lab! We talked about the formula for density as well as the density for water. In addition we looked at items with various densities. Then each team was faced with the challenge to design boats that were less dense than water, thus allowing them to float AND carry "passengers." All teams did an outstanding job! In 1st hour we had the following ships: Blade, SS Eyeball, Orange Slush, and Big Green Monster. Blade won with 33 passengers! In 2nd hour we had Red Charlotte, Titanic, Captain Crunch, and Yellow Pearl. Yellow Pearl won with 36 passengers! 3rd hour's ships included The Skadoosh, SS Daftari, The Big Double, and Big Red. The Skadoosh won with 28! In 4th hour we had The Dinosaur, Canoe, Frank, and Little Red. Little Red won top honors carrying 30 passengers! 5th hour's ships were The Destroyer, Peace Out Chicks, National Guard, and The Green Lizard. The Destroyer carried the most passengers with 36! Congrats to ALL my students for "thinking outside the box!" Tomorrow we will do more density labs so be ready for more fun!!!
